ಮೈಸೂರು, ಮಾ.೧೦,೨೦೨೬ : ಕೃಷಿ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ವಿವಿಧ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃತಕ ಬುದ್ಧಿಮತ್ತೆ (AI) ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ಬಳಕೆ ದಿನೇದಿನೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತಿರುವ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ರೈತರಿಗೆ ನೆರವಾಗುವ AI ಉಪಕರಣಗಳ ಬಳಕೆಯ ಕುರಿತು ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಅರಿವು ಹೊಂದಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ವಿಟಿಯು ಕುಲಪತಿ ಎಸ್. ವಿದ್ಯಾಶಂಕರ್ ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ನಗರದ ವಿದ್ಯಾವರ್ಧಕ ಎಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ PALS IIT Madras ಸಹಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿದ್ದ ‘ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರಿಗಾಗಿ AI’ ಎಂಬ ಎರಡು ದಿನಗಳ ಬೋಧಕ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಸಮಾರೋಪ ಸಮಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು.
ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆಗಳ ಪರಿಣಾಮವಾಗಿ 2030ರ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ಇಂದಿನ ಶೇ.85ರಷ್ಟು ಉದ್ಯೋಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬದಲಾವಣೆ ಸಂಭವಿಸಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ವಿವಿಧ ಅಧ್ಯಯನಗಳು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲ ವೃತ್ತಿಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಮರುಕೌಶಲ್ಯ (Reskilling) ಅತ್ಯಗತ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಟ್ಟರು.
ಕೃಷಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಉದಾಹರಣೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಅವರು, ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟ ಪರಿಶೀಲನೆ, ಬೆಳೆ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ನಿಗಾವಹಣೆ, ನೀರಾವರಿ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ ಹಾಗೂ ರೋಗ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣಕ್ಕೆ AI ಆಧಾರಿತ ಹಲವು ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನಗಳು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವಾರು ರೈತರಿಗೆ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಅರಿವು ಕೊರತೆಯಾಗುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ ಇದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
ಈ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ರೈತರಿಗೆ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡುವ ಸೇತುವೆಯಾಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಬಹುದು. ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಗತ್ಯ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಕೌಶಲ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಅವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.
ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ತಮ್ಮ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ನವೀಕರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು. ಇಂತಹ ತರಬೇತಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ತಮ್ಮ ಕಲಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಸಹೋದ್ಯೋಗಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಕರೆ ನೀಡಿದರು.
ವಿಟಿಯು ಮೊದಲ ಸೆಮಿಸ್ಟರ್ನಲ್ಲೇ AI ಅನ್ನು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದ್ದು, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ನೈಜ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಪರಿಹಾರ ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ‘Innovation and Design Thinking’ ಮುಂತಾದ ಉಪಕ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

Mysuru: With the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across various sectors, including agriculture, teachers and students must develop awareness about effectively using AI tools to support farmers, said VTU Vice-Chancellor S. Vidyashankar.
He was speaking at the valedictory ceremony of a two-day faculty development programme titled “AI for Teachers,” organised by Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering in collaboration with PALS IIT Madras in the city.
He said various studies indicate that due to rapid technological transformation, nearly 85 percent of current jobs could undergo significant changes by 2030, making reskilling essential across all professions.
Citing agriculture as an example, he noted that several AI-based technologies are being developed to assist farmers in areas such as soil quality analysis, crop health monitoring, irrigation management, and disease detection. However, many farmers may lack the technical knowledge required to use these technologies effectively.
In such situations, students and young professionals can play a key role in guiding farmers and acting as a bridge between technology and agriculture, he said, adding that teachers must equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills.
He also emphasized that teachers must continuously update their knowledge in the rapidly evolving technological environment. Those who participate in such training programmes should share their learning with colleagues so that the benefits reach a wider section of society.
Vidyashankar said VTU has already introduced AI as a common subject in the first semester and launched initiatives such as Innovation and Design Thinking to encourage students to identify real-world problems and develop solutions.
He expressed hope that through greater focus on research and innovation, teachers and students will contribute towards achieving the goal of making India technologically self-reliant by 2047.
